One point, however.I would suspect that the majority of members and hosts do not read or contribute to the various forums. In seeking nominations for the committee representatives, therefore, it would be necessary to trawl the proposal on a wider basis than just through the medium of the forum themselves. If CC are in agreement with the idea, perhaps they could send a CC mail to all registered users (hosts & members) to outline the proposal & process to be followed, even though what then follows will be independent of them.

You have posted a thoughtful message although I would guess it is motivated more by your distaste for the private voting system than anything benevolent. On the other hand, as you are a host, it is not unexpected. If you really look at the reasons that hosts do not want voting to be private, it is not based on a way to improve their performance. Many would use the tool to punish viewers who vote 1 star by blocking them or king about them in chat host forum. I can tell you from my own experience that I have gotten nasty emails from hosts who thought (yes thought) that I had given them a low rating. Apparently even with a visible voting system some hosts could not count accurately or presumed in error.

Bad idea, trying to build some elite commitee of 5 members and 5 host to represent the masses. CC is doing fine without this "dream team". If a member or host has a concern/problem, there is direct access to the staff via the suport line.
Also, do you know how many long-term members would be offended when they are kindly set aside?

Unfortunately you have misrepresented the previous visible system. Names of viewers were never present and yet hosts still couldn't get it right. At least be honest in presenting your position.

How about this, you can be the un-official spokesperson for those that want one, post your e-mail or cc name along with a "if you have concern tell me about it and I will tell cc" message and you will be happy and the rest of use can go on with our daily lives. Or start out in you own "backyard" tell your fellow hosts to come to you with thier problems.

Sorry but I don't really like the idea. From the postings in the forum there are very few members I would trust to properly represent my opinions. In my opinion several changes which were made to the site following member forum campaigns have had unforeseen consequences and I believe should not have been made. I feel a committee such as you propose may increase this. Members and hosts can communicate directly with CC by email and indirectly in the forum.
Regarding the rating system I certainly agree some refinement is necessary. I have no problem with a host knowing how I rated her and I feel the host should at least be able to see her last 10 ratings, as was possible until recently. I believe that the automatic 1 star rating if a host has a technical proble with her PC or connection is too severe. The one star rating should only happen after 3 or 4 members have tried to connect and failed. There is the other issue that the inability to connect may be due to a problem on the members side. It should be possible for a host to appeal against a bad rating and have it removed if the grounds seem reasonable. In any such appeal the onus should be on the host to show that the rating was not reasonable. Suitable grounds would be if the member asked the host to do something that was not alowed by CC rules, or was rude and abusive, the host did all that the viewer requested.

Just what we need - more egocentric, power-mongering bureaucrats to (mis)-manage a service that is already run quite Ok co-operatively by the 'owners', the members and the hosts with a 'light touch'.
I deal with this sort of BS all day and DON'T need 'structure' and 'autonomy' at the place I visit for relaxation.

Obviously there would be T-shirts to wear, caps and trousers with our logo down the side... although we can only have one leg fully down. We would hold international elections through CNN every Friday night and one of us would become spokesperson (I vote you... a talking banana would capture the worlds attention no doubt). The only rules are that we should all have some asparagus in salty water in front of us during meetings and we have to wear our uniform with pride! Lol And the secret handshake.. well .. it’s a secret .. clearly! Lol

I don’t know if you got to the bottom of the last major post but after reading everyone's reply it really does seem like it would cause more problems than it would prevent. Which is a shame really. It is strange to read through the thread and try to follow the comments of so many (by name) and yet it appears the input of so few (by writing style). No matter how good an idea, for which I congratulate the effort made to raise the discussion, I don't believe it is an attainable goal in a representative format. The simple fact that you are going to ask people to vote to install individuals (who to be properly represented during election will have to openly state who they are and why they feel they will be representative, i.e. hustings) who they have never met or spoken to and that quite obviously post under multiple names (for the majority, apologies to those who believe they don't) then it will not be representative in any way.
How do you propose to collect views and ideas and schedule "committee" meetings, especially since you will need representation from around the world and a mixture of cultures. I mean - the CC community is global and should be represented as such.
I believe that a company such as CC - who have proved themselves more than capable of supporting the masses and have also shown themselves as actively reading the forum through their intermittent input, should be left to run their own company with the continuing success they have shown so far!!

Well for first time I agree with you. I would further add that any forum should be totally uncensored. Despite our different opinions, I applaud your effort. And, in reading your posts, you have in a sense incorporated some viewers points. You must remember that we are on the other side of the screen and view a different picture that you are not exposed to. Your opinions are respectful unlike some of your cohorts (calling viewers stupid).

Could I suggest either a final or interim solution until you work out the detail. If CC are going to have forums and you want a way of proposing and discussing changes... why not have a Forum for change suggestions with a limited life span for discussion threads? No reason to make them unreadable but do stop people adding to them - maybe after 7 days, 14 days or 28 days, let CC decide how long. This way people have their say, those that are interested will read the Proposal Forum, those that don't care will have their choice.

Perfect! I didnt think for one second that anyone whould take any kind of control from CC all I was asking for was a clearer voice in being able to express our concerns or suggestions. But I think you already new that. A couple of weeks would give everyone enough time to get in and have their say... and people could take it or leave it. The idea of this thread was to get other people involved and I thankyou for being one of the few who took it as it was intended. For those that are here daily, who spend their hard earned money and earn their money the hard way... I would have thought that they would want to be more involved in how their community grows. Sad to see they are not. But it is ultimately their choice. Again thankyou so very much, whether you have agreed or not, it doesnt matter. CC is not a governmental entity that requires a governmental body. I suggest your real option is to buy enough stock in the parent company and elect enough members to the board of directors to force your view on the company.

You seek to control implementation and use of the star system. You seek to control access to CC with complaints, comments and suggestions. You seek a committee of ten to monitor and approve access to a new forum. Hosts and members already have autonomy. Neither are required by rule or contract to be here. And allof us have free access to make suggestions and complaints, either in public in these forums or in comm chat, or in private by e-mail.

For example, if my average was 3 stars, and I gave a host 5 stars, that would be "+2" -- a pretty good rating. If my average was 5 stars, and I rated a host 5, it would be "0" -- an average rating. How that affected a host, whether the system looked at a member's last 10 ratings, or last 20 or whatever could be worked out later. Yes, you could still game the system -- go around and do short shows with hosts you don't like just to give them 1 star, so you could go back to your girlfriend and give her 5 stars. But at least you would have to pay for your stupidity. As things are now, members who just mindlessly give the same rating for all their shows makes the rating system less useful than it could be. Well, from reading his post I didn't think he appeared to be peddling for sympathy or wallowing in self pity. He is not the first, nor the last person to be burned here. I don't know what was his motivation for posting, but he seemed disappointed, sad and angry. I suppose to express any of those feelings would be considered unmanly to someone like you? You could very well be right in your asessment of him. If you are, then I guess all of us should be grateful for you being here to give us a healthy dose of "reality."
